Matchlock Long Guns

I will not attempt to go into detail about the History of Matchlock guns here as the website en.wikipedia has a splendid page encompassing this already. Click on HERE to go to that page. On Nov. 20, 2024 the Herman Historica Auction House sold three German Matchlock Guns. Following are images with descriptions.

Circa 1620 Matchlock Musket lot #7080

Octagonal, slightly tapered barrel with smooth bore in 17.5 mm calibre. Original armoury muzzle protector of pewter and wood inserted in the muzzle. Two unidentified marks deeply struck at the breech. Rectangular pan with flash guard and swivelling lid. The lock plate marked “CK”, cock with original match. Beech wood full stock with surrounding decorative double lines, simple iron furniture. Occasional wormholes in the stock. Original wooden ramrod with iron tip. Length 168 cm.

A German matchlock musket, circa 1640

Description

Achtkantiger, in rund übergehender Lauf mit glatter Seele im Kaliber 17 mm. Eingeschobene Kimme. Luntenschloss, Pfanne mit Feuerschirm und schwenkbarem Deckel. Vollschaft mit einfacher eiserner Garnitur. Hölzerner Ladestock mit eisernem Dopper. Länge 149 cm.

Circa 1660 Matchlock Musket lot #7082

Über der Kammer oktagonaler, nach Baluster in rund übergehender Lauf im Kaliber 17 mm mit kanonierter Mündung, auf der Oberseite Perlkorn und Tunnelkimme. Vollschaft mit eiserner Garnitur. Hölzerner Ladestock. Schaft überarbeitet, Vorderschaft angesetzt und mit Ergänzungen sowie Wurmlöchern. Länge 153 cm.
